Watch the Changing Leaves in Chattanooga and Lookout Mountain

Fall has finally come to Chattanooga and Lookout Mountain!

This is one of my favorite seasons for many reasons. Mornings are slowly getting cooler and darker, the smell of cinnamon spice seems to be everywhere, and the holidays are fast approaching.

Fall in the mountains is a truly special time. Our communities here are full of mature trees, many hundreds of years old, changing colors with the season. It’s a great time to get outdoors and see the sights, before the temperatures drop too low.

This blog is a guide to some of the best spots in the area to watch the changing leaves, go for a hike, or spend time outside with loved ones. What’s your favorite place in Chattanooga or Lookout Mountain to watch the leaves? Let me know in the comments!

Beautiful Chattanooga Sights

mountain leavesAs of right now, many of the leaves throughout North Carolina are predominantly yellow. This is because of warmer temperatures. In order for leaves to turn dark red and purple, they need bright sunlight at low temperatures and near-freezing evenings.

But, there are still beautiful sights to see throughout Chattanooga and Lookout Mountain. Shades of yellow, orange, and red cover all of the trees here. What’s more satisfying in fall than stepping on a particularly crunchy leaf?

Here are some great spots to watch the leaves in Chattanooga.

Another incredible way to view the leaves of Chattanooga and Lookout Mountain are by train! Lookout Mountain Incline Railway Rides offers awesome views of the Tennessee Valley.

The Summerville Steam Special is a vintage train that takes passengers on a historic route from Chattanooga to Summerville, and then back. While traveling, you’ll get to see some of the best sights in the area.
